Oct. 2, 2009, Toronto - Firefighters from across Ontario will gather at the Ontario Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial in Toronto on Sunday to pay solemn tribute to 28 firefighters whose deaths were formally recognized as line-of-duty deaths in the past 12 months.
ceremony begins at 1 p.m. at the monument, located at the
northeast corner of Queen's Park Circle and College Street in Toronto.
year's ceremony holds special meaning for the Ontario Professional Fire
Fighters Association, as the monument will be rededicated after a major
restoration that was necessary because of a shocking act of vandalism that
occurred in May 2008, when slogans targeting firefighters were spray painted
across several of the monument's inscribed granite walls.
