One dead, one injured in apartment fire

Dec. 23, 2010, Regina – An overnight apartment fire in Regina has left one person dead and a second person in hospital.

Firefighters say one of the apartments in the two-storey south-side complex was completely engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene.

Two people were taken to hospital, but emergency officials later said one of them had died.

The name of the victim has not been released.

The flames were contained to a basement suite, but smoke damage was extensive and the entire 24-unit building had to be evacuated.

The cause of the blaze is not known.
