April 25, 2011, Ottawa – The arson squad is investigating an Ottawa fire that killed a 63-year-old man and injured his girlfriend.

Authorities say Friday's blaze started on the second floor of a house on Cavan Street in the city's west end.

A passerby spotted the flames and alerted firefighters.

Emergency crews were able to get the man out of the house, but he died later in hospital.

His girlfriend was injured when she had to jump from a second-storey window.

The home's other occupants escaped uninjured.
