May 17, 2013, St. John's, N.L. – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says a fire that has left a mother and her young son temporarily homeless is suspicious.

Police are investigating the possibility that Wednesday's blaze at a 16-unit apartment complex in St. John's was deliberately set.

The woman and her nine-year-old son are being assisted by the Red Cross after the fire damaged their unit at Freshwater Apartments.

Other units in the complex were evacuated when the fire broke out, but tenants were permitted to return about an hour later.
