March 16, 2023, Kitchener, Ont. ¬- Sani Gear is marking its 20th anniversary as an independent service provider for Canada’s first responder industry.

Founded by Jeannette and Rickart Thomsen, Sani Gear began as a hockey gear cleaning company in North Bay, Ont. When the Thomsens realized that firefighter gear has the same bulky nature as hockey gear, they offered to clean several sets of gear for North Bay Fire and Emergency Services.

From its inception, Sani Gear has aimed to provide their clients with high quality services and quick turn-around timing at a reasonable price, stated the company in a press release. Sani Gear also strives to reduce the risk of cancer in the fire industry by helping removing toxins from bunker gear through their three-part detergent system.

In November 2019, Sani Gear opened a branch in Gatineau, Que., and now employs almost 40 employees and services hundreds of fire departments throughout eastern Canada. The company also partners with manufacturers, distributors, and component manufacturers to help them with warranty claims.
