The seventh installment of the EDI Celebration Series will be broadcast live on November 25 at 1:00 pm EST. For November’s event, Cynthia Ross Tustin, Fire Chief (Ret.) and former president of the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs, will share her career experiences and recommendations for increasing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the fire service.

The EDI Celebration Series is a program of the CAFC in collaboration with Fire Fighting in Canada through a generous grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation.

Fire Chief (Ret.) Cynthia Ross Tustin

Cynthia Ross Tustin was the first female to lead a fire department in Ontario. She took the helm as fire chief of the volunteer department in Essa in 2013, and remained until she retired from her role in May.

Ross Tustin was also the first female elected president of the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs in 2018. Prior to become the fire chief in Essa, she spent over 25 years in fire and emergency management, including serving as the fire protection advisor and program specialist with the Office of the Fire Marshal, assistant fire chief of prevention and development for the City of Barrie, deputy fire chief for the Bradford West Gwillimbury fire department and volunteered with the Hillsburgh and District fire department.

Ross Tustin is formerly a registered nurse who worked in critical care units.
