Woman dies in Toronto apartment fire

The blaze started in the 34^th-floor unit at about 4 a.m.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but the woman, in her 40s,
was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman's son, believed to be in his late teens or early 20s,
was rushed to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and burns
to his hands and legs.

Initial reports to police came in as an assault, but the son was
just trying to beat the flames off his mother in an attempt to save
her.

The Ontario Fire Marshal's office is investigating. (CP24)
