Wrong way driver killed on QEW

Nov. 8, 2011, Burlington, Ont. - Provincial police say an elderly man was killed last night when he crashed his Buick head-on into a Honda while driving the wrong way on a highway.

The crash occurred in the Toronto-bound lanes of the Queen Elizabeth Way near Burlington at around 9:40 p.m.

The elderly driver was alone in the Buick and was taken to Hamilton General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

There were three males in the Honda and two had to be extricated from the vehicle by Burlington firefighters.

All three were taken to Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington and Hamilton General Hospital with varying injuries.

The QEW's Toronto-bound lanes were closed at the crash scene (at North Shore Blvd.) for several hours for an investigation.
