Hosted by the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation, this year’s National Firefighters’ Memorial takes place on Sunday, Sept. 12, at the Marion Dewar Plaza at City Hall in Ottawa.
124 names of the fallen will be added to the Memorial Wall this year, joining those 1700 names already included of fallen firefighters from across Canada and the territories dating back to the late 1800s.
Usually, the annual memorial draws hundreds of firefighters from each of the provinces and territories who attend the ceremony in a show of solidarity and commemoration.
This year, due to the ongoing pandemic, 20 families are being honoured, with each sitting in their own “pod.”
