Fire damages Bedford Institute of Oceanography
Feb. 1, 2016, Halifax - Fire investigators in Halifax are trying to determine what caused a fire at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography.

Firefighters were called to the ocean research facility Sunday afternoon.
It’s believed the flames originated outside the building located along the Bedford Basin in Dartmouth.
Investigators say the fire travelled up the side of the building, eventually spreading inside and causing extensive damage.
No one was inside at the time.

The institute was established in 1962 by the federal government and is the largest ocean research centre in Canada.
