Fire destroys Tottenham animal sanctuary

Oct. 23, 2015, Tottenham, Ont. - Fire has destroyed an animal farm and sanctuary in Tottenham, Ont., killing more than two dozen animals.

The fire began Thursday morning at the Painted Rock Animal Farm and Sanctuary and when fire crews arrived the two-storey house was engulfed in flames.

Provincial police Const. Harry Lawerenson says 25 cats and five dogs died in the fire.

Animals outside the house were rescued.

According to its website, Painted Rock Animal Farm and Sanctuary is “dedicated to caring for abused, abandoned and orphaned animals.”

The website also says the sanctuary cares for horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs, ducks and other animals.
