Firefighter injured battling blaze at auto recycling depot

July 28, 2016, Calgary - A firefighter suffered a minor hand injury while battling an overnight blaze that destroyed one building and heavily damaged another at a Calgary auto recycling depot.

Fire officials say one of the buildings was engulfed in flames when crews arrived at the scene in an industrial park just after 1:00 a.m.

A second alarm was quickly called in because of the size of the spreading blaze.

Firefighters had to be cautious because of exploding gas tanks in vehicles and two natural gas lines.

Crews were expected to be at the scene for several hours watching for flare-ups.

The arson unit has been called in to investigate.
