Former firefighter pleads guilty to arson

April 3, 2017, Edmonton - A former volunteer firefighter has pleaded guilty to four counts of arson, including the CN trestle bridge near Mayerthorpe, Alta. that burned in April 2016. Lawson Michael Schalm pleaded guilty to four counts in Mayerthorpe provincial court Friday, with a five-year prison sentence proposed by the Crown.
