June 20, 2013, Halifax – The employer of Nova Scotia's 800 unionized paramedics is expressing disappointment that a tentative contract deal reached earlier this month has been rejected by its employees.

Stacey Brown of Emergency Medical Care Inc. says the company is frustrated with the outcome and wants to meet with the union to discuss what happens next.

Brown says Local 727 of the International Union of Operating Engineers has agreed that there will not be a legal strike before July 5.

The union could not be reached for comment and has not released the results of the vote.

Union officials had recommended acceptance of the deal, which included a defined benefit pension plan.

The pension plan had been a major sticking point during negotiations.
