July 11, 2022, N.S. – On Wednesday, Toronto philanthropist Larry Goldstein presented a $20,000 cheque to the Nova Scotia Firefighters Benevolent Fund (NSFBF).

Goldstein purchased the historic all-suite Addington Arms B&B in Lunenburg, N.S., last year. He plans to renovate the property and turn it into a gallery and residential apartments.

Goldstein contacted the Lunenburg Community Consignment shop and offered to sell the bed and breakfasts’ furniture and other contents and donate the proceeds to the NSFBF, a non-profit society that provides funds to help Nova Scotia firefighters in need cover unexpected out-of-pocket expenses such as fuel, parking, meals, even lodging, that are incurred during trips to appointments with out-of-town medical practitioners.

Approximately 7,500 volunteer and 450 career firefighters operate out of 271 Nova Scotia fire departments. The NSFBF is governed by a volunteer Board comprised of five South Shore firefighters.
