States of emergency are in effect in the county, the Municipal District of Willow Creek and Crowsnest Pass.

And late last night, Medicine Hat Mayor Ted Clugston tweeted that he had declared a state of emergency in the city.

He says it gave him a heavy heart to do so, but he wants residents to know the city is prepared.

The city opened its Emergency Operations Centre and began sandbagging using intelligence it gained last year.

About one-thousand Medicine Hat homes were hit by high water in the flood of 2013.

Forecasters are calling for as much as 200 millimetres of rain in the southwest corner of the province by tomorrow morning.

Farmers are being advised to move their livestock and people are being told to stay away from riverbanks.
