Dec. 30, 2013, Rossland, B.C. – Rescuers have started picking up a group of 10 skiers who spent a cold night on a B.C. mountain after accidentally venturing outside the boundaries of a ski resort.

The RCMP say family members reported the group missing yesterday from Red Mountain Resort, near Rossland in southeastern B.C.

Cpl. Dave Johnson says a search-and-rescue team located the group at about 12:30 a.m. and stayed with the skiers, who by then had settled in for the night and started a fire.

Johnson says no one was hurt, and the process of airlifting the skiers to safety began at fist light.

He says it will take several trips throughout the day to retrieve all 10 skiers and their rescuers.

Johnson says it appears the group made a navigation error and inadvertently wandered out of bounds and the ski resort and into the back country.
